2022 Nursery Interior Trends

Designers share their favourite nursery looks.

Categories   Interiors

If the nesting stage has kicked in and you’re planning your dream nursery, you’ll probably be spending your evenings scrolling through endless Pinterest boards in the wonderful world of nursery interiors.

There’s so much potential when designing your little one’s nursery, with lots of trends, colour schemes and styles to suit every parent’s taste and personality. To guide you through the countless possibilities and inspire you with your DIY, The Edit asked 5 interior design specialists to share their favourite 2022 trends in nursery design.

Shades of Green

A nursery is all about being calm, serene and peaceful, a place where you can enjoy your baby’s early years through their everyday smiles and night-time snuggles. A colour we love to use to achieve this vibe is green. Whether it’s a soft, light hue or a deeper warm tone, it makes a gorgeous backdrop for your perfect room.

Being playful with patterns, wallpaper and geometric walls can work well, but you can also keep it super simple just painting the walls. Green mixed with other earthy colours like stone and white is a gorgeous palette for a gender-neutral scheme too.

Natural Materials

For eco-conscious parents, responsibly sourced nursery design is certainly a trend for 2022. Based on natural elements such as solid wood, cotton or rattan, a natural nursery brings in a feeling of calmness and can be a perfect solution for gender neutral decor.

To complete the look, final touches include a generous amount of greenery and nature-inspired wall art.

Neutral Safari

Whether you’re planning gender neutral decor or wanting a multi-functional nursery to avoid years of fuss-free redecorating, neutral colour schemes and simple accessorising will provide subtle sophistication and tranquillity to small spaces.

Animal accessories in gold or brass and multiple wall panelling styles add texture and depth to otherwise plain walls, working to elevate a soft, nude palette. Add classic furniture, statement handles and lighting for a modern finish.

Make the most of your wall space, using safari themed wall hooks for both function and design, finished with a colour pop of foliage. Different mirror styles bounce light and reflect key character features. Simple linens and furnishings complement to provide warmth in the details.

Earthy Warm Tones with a Mono Metallic Twist

As a designer and colour enthusiast focusing on nursery trends for 2022, I favour a warm earthy toned colour palette with a metallic mono twist, introducing layers of tufted textures within the same deep tonal palette. This selection of rich tones, inspired within nursery schemes, emphasizes a calming, welcoming atmosphere within the space.

Pops of greenery and soft warm metallics bring the earthy design scheme together. Nutmeg rustic terracotta and ochre stimulate a soothing space for all the family with muted warm sensory lighting. Proposing a calm environment is key when carefully designing a nursery scheme, considering practicalities, colour palettes and lighting.

Panelled Walls and Pretty Paper

When planning our daughter’s nursery, we wanted to create a calming space that was both whimsical and elegant.

To achieve this, we chose to combine panelled walls with beautifully patterned wallpaper. We actually fell in love with the wallpaper first and designed the rest of the room to complement it, resulting in a soft colour palette of muted pinks and creams. The panelling adds character, whilst the subtle woodland theme of the wallpaper gives the space an enchanted feel.

As a contrast to the pink walls, we chose simple white nursery furniture that is not only beautiful, but practical too. We also added cane accents and a cotton rug to bring in some natural textures.
It was important for us to try and balance decor that would be loved by our daughter, whilst also being reflective of our interior style.
